ESME EMERSON YARD
British-Chinese sibling duo Esme Emerson have returned with their new single, ‘Yard’. It’s a song about the desire to be taken seriously as they grow older, while mourning the loss of youth. Despite its nostalgic lyrical content, there’s something hopeful and positive about the shuffling guitar strumming, thick bass line and prominent shake of the tambourine that underpins Esme’s voice. “This song is a promise to return, to come back home to the yard we grew up in,” they explain. “It’s an attempt to gently reassure that impatient child that this is only temporary, to ease the grief of growing up.” Check out their recent EP, Big Leap, No Faith, Small Chancer, and catch them live around the UK this October. -Dan Peeke
